Outpatient Imaging

Animal Specialty Hospital of Florida offers the only in-house veterinary imaging center of its kind in Southwest Florida. Our animal diagnostic imaging capabilities include high-field MRI, helical CT, digital radiography, ultrasound and endoscopy. Our high tech imaging equipment provides for enhanced visual accuracy leading to the improved diagnosis and immediate treatment for your pet.

If your veterinarian refers your pet to us for an outpatient imaging procedure there are some important things to know before arrival.  If the imaging procedure requires anesthesia, (CT, MRI or endoscopy) you will need to bring copies of recent blood work (performed within the past 7 days) and chest x-rays with you to the appointment.  In addition, it will be important to fast your pet; no food after 10 pm the night before the procedure; however, small amounts of water is okay.  In most cases, the results of the procedure are reported directly to your primary care veterinarian within 24 hours of the procedure and he/she will discuss the results with you as they become available.

A Board-Certified Radiologist or Specialist Evaluates all Images

Our goal is to enhance the role of diagnostic imaging in the veterinary practice and to provide our referring veterinarians with exceptional service and image quality, in conjunction with timely reporting.  In many cases, same day service can be accommodated. A board-certified radiologist is available to review all digital radiographs ultrasounds, CT and MRI scans as necessary. Ultrasounds and endoscopic examinations are performed by Dr. Ashley Ayoob, our dual board-certified internist/criticalist while our board-certified surgeon reads most of our orthopedic digital x-rays. CT and MRI imaging are performed by Dr. Michelle Carnes; studies involving the nervous system are immediately interpreted by Dr. Carnes and all other studies will be sent for interpretation by a board-certified radiologist.
